Our Background Academy Medical is a medical distributorship based in Gainesville, Florida that was founded in 2002 by Daniel Shaw and Patrick Papa, two Naval Academy graduates. The name, Academy Medical, pays homage to the founders' Alma Mater - where they met in 1987. The company's humble beginnings date back to 1999 when Mr. Papa and Mr. Shaw wanted to transition from their current roles at large medical companies. Feeling like their contributions did not make an impact, they wanted to be able to provide impeccable service to physicians, and contribute to the overall care provided to patients. Through shear determination, impeccable service and attention to detail, Academy Medical has expanded from a start up medical distributor in 2002 to one of the largest distributors in the world for OrthoDevelopment™. In 2010, Academy Medical sought to take their proven civilian success as a medical distributorship and return to their brethren roots, the military. Shaw says "Having the privilege to return to these military installations and provide our products and services to physicians and patients alike is invigorating for us all." Papa states, "Being on these military bases and VA hospitals gives us the feeling of working with family again. It fills us with a sense of pride and honor to be able to serve our fellow men and women in the armed services again." |
